Mama took our cat Tenzing in to the office for his annual check-up. I took Siena in to school. In my car, Siena found a little toy phone next to her seat. She picked it up, and proceeded to have this conversation. Imagine a brief pause after each line while she “hears” a response.
Hi mama.
I’m good.
I’m in the car. On the way to school.
After you’re done with work, can you pick me up? [ed. by this point I was nearly peeing my pants trying not to laugh out loud or disrupt her]
Are you driving with Tenzing?
Ok
Bye mama.
[to me] That was my mama.
I don’t think she’s had such a coherent, logical phone call with any actual person ever!

Fantastic! You will realize that in your role as “family chauffeur par excellence” you will “overhear” lots of interesting conversations. Amazingly this will continue until they start taking over the driving. Enjoy, enjoy!

MikeP – Thanks, I expect you’re right. I also don’t know how we’ll manage the pressure of ipod/nintendo DS/headphone isolationism and who knows what else!
