Siena had her second-round flu shot on Saturday. She was pretty well knocked out the rest of the day, feverish and sleepy. Sunday she was arguably back to normal, but (unfortunately for dad) normal these days means one little nap in the early afternoon, so she was a bundle of energy from 7am until 1pm. Not so good for dad since he too got a flu shot on Saturday, and his arm was hurting from that and then carrying and running Siena all over the place for six hours.

Siena also has four more teeth coming in, so she’s a real drool factory right now. At one point yesterday she had two separate streams of drool flowing, poor girl. And after her (short) nap she was in pretty constant pain for an hour or so, and let the world know it. She managed to calm down a little but always seemed on the verge of going back to sleep.

Finally, mom arrived home to save the day: smiles all around!

Oh and the Red Sox won the World Series! Go Sox!

Happy One Year, Siena!

Unfortunately, Siena has a fever from a busy weekend and getting a flu shot yesterday, so daddy has to stay at home with her on her birthday. Which I guess is good in a way, but it always makes for a long day when she only naps for at most two hours total and otherwise requires near constant attention.

In any event, it’s hard to imagine that one year ago at this time (10:30am while I’m writing this) we had been in the hospital for eight hours and would still have another six to go before Siena made her grand debut, followed by four days of hospital food and visits from Nonna and Mo.

For the record, I dreamt last night that we were at the hospital for child #2, and there was a good chance this one would end up being born on the 11th as well; it was dreaming in real time, and it sure was stressful. Add to that that Siena was up at midnight, 2 am, and 4 am (mom got up that time and stayed with Siena in her room), and it’s a tired household here today.

Thanks in advance to those who sent cards and/or gifts. They are much appreciated, and Siena will definitely enjoy them when she gets her little hands on them. Tonight we shall open everything and dine on cake!

Recording this one for the, um, record books. Mom had her first all-nighter (is there supposed to be a hyphen there?) at school yesterday. Not the best way to spend Memorial Day, but definitely memorable in its own way; kind of a rite of passage. I’m hoping to get the run-down tonight on all the emergency surgeries that came in over the course of the day and night.

Dad had Siena from about 10am until bed-time, so to fill the day we–not necessarily in this order–napped, had lunch, played sitting with toys upstairs, played sitting with toys on the couch downstairs, played in the Exersaucer, walked down to the end of the driveway and back, napped, had snack, went shopping at Target and Borders, practiced rolling over on the bed while going after some plastic rattle balls (she actually wanted to roll over for once!), had dinner, went for another brief walk to check out the beginnings of the renovation next door, watched Manny hit a line drive home run and Youkilis hit an inside-the-parker (seriously that’s all we saw, talk about lucky timing when walking into the room), played in the Exersaucer some more, got ready for bed, choked down about 4 oz. of formula, read two books including a new one, and went to bed.

Oh and this is all coming on the end of a weekend that saw the onset of the first ear infection last Friday and a trip to the summer home Saturday and Sunday; with restless nights all along the way. So it was a busy holiday weekend. Who’s ready to get back to work?

We finally got our first baby fever this weekend. That 101.2 reading was from under the arm last night. Siena was acting lethargic most of the afternoon, and was pretty hot to the touch. We gave her some infant tylenol and put her to bed early. After a bit of a rough night, she seems to be feeling better this morning. However, we still think she’s fighting something off. Let’s all hope she’ll be fine tomorrow to go to day care!

Siena’s been suffering from her first significant viral infection this past week. We even had to take her in to the pediatrician on an emergency visit, since day care called and said she should probably get seen. Turns out she has bronchiolitis. When we took her back to day care the next day, I was very careful to enunciate that, to make sure they knew it wasn’t the seemingly related bronchitis. I don’t know, for some reason, bronchitis sounds worse. Maybe it’s because I’ve heard of it, whereas I hadn’t heard of bronchiolitis. Surely ignorance means it’s less important, right? Well, the pediatrician did say there was nothing specific we had to do to treat her, whereas the bronchitis article suggests a doctor might offer some cough medicine…

Anyway, she’s on the road to recovery now, and while mom and dad are pretty tired out, baby is very cheerful again, and smiling all the time.
