Developmentally she’s on track. Just today, in fact, while in her car seat on the way to school she managed to grab her pacifier from her lap and manhandle it into her mouth. Siena exclaimed, “Hey, she’s trying to get the binky in her mouth!”

Well it’s been, what, two weeks now, and things are looking pretty good. I’m not even certain where the pacifiers are at this point. Siena gets to sleep at night quite well (usually within 10 minutes), and is at the point where she can get herself back to sleep in the middle of the night, usually without waking us up. Which means we are all getting a little better sleep than before.

Unfortunately the naps are still kind of a disaster. I’m not sure how they’re surviving at day care, but at home on the weekends she will scream for 30 minutes and then nap for 10. Not sure what to do about that…ideas welcome!

No more pacifier. Cold turkey.

She’s got to learn to live free of addiction.

So starting Sunday morning we just dealt with all the screaming. The naps on Sunday were torturous affairs of screaming and crying and generally lamenting the rotten state of the universe (and Siena wasn’t very happy either). I don’t think they were very happy with us at day care. But Monday night was amazing…she got to sleep in about 10 minutes, not all of it in sheer terror at being left without her soothie. (And no, it wasn’t from sheer exhaustion, she had some good-sized naps during the day.) And overnight she got up twice, maybe, but neither mom nor dad had to get out of bed for her to get back to sleep. Ah, blessed sleep!

Let’s hope for more of that.

First it was the drool. Lots of drool. Well actually, that’s been going on since day one, so no real good indicator of change there. But the new deliberate chewing on the pacifier and on hands at a specific spot in the mouth, the new set of crying and fussiness, and the little white speck on the gum line all point to one thing: Tooth!

Once it’s a little prouder, and she’s smiling again, we’ll snap a photo. For now, read a little about teething and the joys to which we look forward at http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/6574.html.
