The Ruark Kids

Complicated commands

When forced to come up with something to do on her own while we’re making dinner, Thalia will often start emptying the corner kitchen cabinet of anything that she can easily lift. Most commonly her victims include enjoyably rattlable boxes of macaroni or rice mixes; less frequently she’ll try to drag out cans of soup, at which point we sometimes have to save her from dropping them on her feet. Tonight she pulled out about five or six boxes before she got bored and started to wander off. I stopped her and told her to put the boxes back where she found them – and dang if she didn’t toddle right back to the cabinet and start jamming the boxes back on the shelves! She had some moments of frustration when they wouldn’t fit, but eventually she got them all put away and clapped her hands.
