Living Room Representation

As part of my thinking about how we’ll use our living room in the future, including the eventual addition (we hope) of a larger yet flatter TV (current TV is a 1997 27″ CRT) and some kind of gas or wood stove, I roughly measured out the room structure and jotted it down on a yellow paper pad. (Later I enter this into Visio and use that to move furniture around.)

Here is what I came up with:

Siena saw this, asked me what it was, so I explained that it was a drawing of our living room, and I showed her each of the furniture elements and the doors and windows. I perhaps failed to explain that it is a plan and shows a top-down view; maybe I figured that was obvious.

Siena decided she wanted to draw the living room, too, and here is what she came up with:

She drew something more like an elevation, or a perspective from someone sitting on our couch. Kind of. At the bottom is our wood floor boards, then the horizontal lines are the rug, then left to right we have a window, our glider rocking chair, a speaker, our TV unit, another speaker, a tall lamp, then the couch (now she’s kind of swung around), another lamp, and another window. Not actually the correct ordering, but also not too bad from memory. I just loved the representation of the various objects.
